Studio Calico Odyssey Kits Reveal
Hello on this lovely Sunday! I'm here to share my Studio Calico Odyssey cards for the official Creative Team gallery. Since the add-on stamp sets were still on their way when the CT packages shipped, you get lots of main kit only inspiration from me this time. Enjoy!
I've said it before, this little froggy has my heart! For this card, I stamped it on a die-cut tag with Color Theory Clean Slate ink and used Neocolor II pastels to color the background and frog. The whole enforcement ring was punched from American Crafts glitter tape. I love to add these fun details!
I came up with this more girly card, when I read the "you make my heart leap" sentiment and thought it would be fun to have actual leaping/hoppy cards to go with the frog image. For the shaker, I used an older heart die in the Studio Calico Copper Mountain card kit (sold out) with pink cardstock as well as vanilla sequins. When I glued the shaker panel together and wanted to mount it on my card base, I felt it still need a little something and the Washi Strip add-on was just the ticket.
How cute is that little gator? And it makes for a good size focal point, too. For the sentiment, I stamped "Later Gator" on a piece of white cardstock with Color Theory Lime Light ink and sewed it down between two layers of patterned paper. Since you can't have too much glitter, really, I also painted the gator with glitter nail polish but you could use regular glitter with Glossy Accents, too.
I did struggle with place on this card first because of the many lines on the pattern paper. Once I settle for using the card kit alphas in addition to the stamp set, it all fell into place. This could also be cute for a little boy's birthday with a different sentiment, don't you think? The hexagon tag came from a Easter card add-on set I bought last month and coloring was again done with Neocolor II pastels. They're my favorite way to color images right now because of how highly pigmented they are.
This card has a touch of mixed media. I used the plastic "hey" shape in the card kit as a mask with Mister Huey's spraymists, then added a little more depth with Neocolor II pastels and a watercolor brush to emphasize the edges of the letters. Unfortunately, some of the spraymist color spilled over into the letter space and I had to paint over the whitespace with Gesso. Once everything was dry, I stamped the little chameleon and sentiment with Color Theory Lime Light ink. For a bit more oomph, I put a strip of glue tape down on the card panel, shook glitter over it and mounted everything on contrasting turquoise cardstock.
Spring is in the air… or so, thus, butterflies are a must! Admittedly, the colors in this month's kit are more boyish, in my opinion at least, which some of you enjoy and others probably don't. I just wanted to show you that by adding just a single accent color with cardstock (bright pink, anyone?), you can completely turn the feel of any kit. The cool black pattern underneath the die-cuts/punched shapes is again from the Washi Strip set.
I hope you liked this tour through my projects - to see what everyone else did including the scrapbooking and Project Life® peeps, you can visit the Odyssey kit gallery on the Studio Calico website.
