Studio Calico Poet Society Reveal
Hey everyone, it's time for another Studio Calico reveal! After some trouble with the servers on the SC website, everything is hopefully up and running for you to shop those
gorgeous September kits… and it means I can finally share my gallery cards with y'all :)
The first card I made concentrated on the bigger sentiment stamps in the card main. I think those are great if you struggle with focal points since they hardly need anything else to stand out. For the background, I used an old embossing folder and partially inked it up with Color Theory inks before pressing it into watercolor paper. The beauty of those inks is that they react with water (they become more vibrant that way) and can even be used to color. The part that wasn't ink, I filled with sprinkles and paint from purple Neocolors II. After everything was dry, I stamped on the kit sentiments and used a glitter pen on top of the ink for the "hooray". The clear star rhinestones finished the card off and help to keep the attention on the sentiment.
The rocket stamp set was a secret favorite of mine for this month. It will come handy for many boy birthday cards! I chose the constellation paper for the background and, to make the rocket stamp stand out more since I didn't have silver embossing powder on hand, I stamped on a die cut tag and colored the image with Neocolor II crayons yet again - hands down one of the best craft-related investments I made this year!
For the next card, I was able to dig deep in my ink pad stash and use many of them on a single one-layer card. There's a long rectangle stamp in the card kit that was designed to provide a background for some of the sentiment stamps. When you flip it 90 degrees, it can be used for birthday candles, too. Just stamp them in a row with a little overlap for an interesting look and add some flames with watercolors or a bit of yellow ink. A bit of glitter on the flames and thin black line and you're ready to go! The birthday sentiment is from the new jar stamp set, in case you wonder.
Now, this next card… you know, gold is something that I can only handle in moderation but the gem stamps in the card kit called for it to be done :) I stamped my sentiment first in black ink, then masked it off with a post it note. After that, I arranged three of the gem stamps on a block and repeatedly stamped them to fill up the notecard. You can of course use gold ink for this but went for gold letterpress ink instead. It doesn't sink into the paper so much and has a true, shiny gold finish. Acrylic paint could also work well for this.
You see, the stamps are too much fun this month. I had barely touched the paper until this point, although there is lots of variety this time! There's not a single repeat pattern in the pad and everything coordinates so well. I punched a few circles from he red and yellow papers and stacked them to create a flower. Also, I found the garland stamps can be stretch enough to form a straight line of diamonds and make an awesome background. These three lines are enough to anchor the flower as to not have it "float" on my card.
… and then, there was the jar stamp add-on. This one holds a lot of opportunities to be filled for many occasions. I opted o color them with - you guessed it - Neocolors II watercolors for added dimension. After the paint was dry, random dots of Glossy Accents were placed on the stamped jar to adhere confetti. The jar label went on top with foam dimensionals underneath. Originally, I stamped the lid but found the gingham-y pattern paper could work well for this, too. Glad I got the scissors out for this!
Soooo, what do think ladies? There were more stamp add-ons than the two I showed you by the way. You can check them out on the kit tab on the Studio Calico website strike midnight EST. Also, if you want to see the detail images of my kit samples along with the supplies, they are all listed in my gallery - you can go directly to your favorite card by clicking the link under the card images on this post.
Another something, I am excited about are these beauties…
Yes!! SC reveals six new Color Theory inks and they're right up my alley :) So perfect for upcoming fall projects and even modern style Christmas cards. The bundle will hope right into my cart along with these circle craft dies and maybe a SB/PL add-on as well. If only I could decide between Yeats and Whitman… September is my birthday month, so I may as well splurge, eh? How about you guys? Share your favorites!
Happy reveal! :)
