Studio Calico Bluegrass Farm {Revealed}

Studio Calico reveal day is here which means I'm able to show you a first batch of my Bluegrass Farm kit cards. Yay! Let's start right with a main card kit only sample.

In anticipation of the new mixed media class that will be coming to the Studio Calico classroom next month, I wanted to use a simple mixed media technique for one of my kit cards without getting too dark and shabby. I used an older spray mist mask on the background by randomly painting some of the trendy triangle pattern on it with a thin layer of Gesso (for even more dimension, treat yourself to some modeling paste), then sprinkled some Mister Huey in Calico Shine and Cream over it. In some areas I used a coral colored soft pastels on the Gesso triangles to add some more interest.

For the sentiment mat, I wanted to go with an ombre look. After I picked the word stamps from the kit stamp set, I stamped the "hooray" in three different shades of ink (Well Red, Coral Bay and Blush Crush from the Studio Calico Color Theory ink palette). The "it's your birthday" was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black once then stamped of three times to create the faded look. I noticed the strawberry stamp was about the right size to cover the larger "o" in "hooray" and added that over the top with a foam dot.
As for the background, I punched four square pieces from the patterned paper pad in the kit and layered a thin strip of red paper on top. The great thing about this is that it coordinates with the darkest ink color of my sentiment and therefor draws the eye right to it. Now, that satin ribbon in the main card kit is something else! So smooth and easy to tie into a bow. With my Crop-a-dile, I punched some holes in the sentiment panel and card base to run in the ribbon and hold the mat in place. To finish everything off, I used the remaining Gesso on my paint brush and painted the edges of my punched pieces and die-cuts to create cohesiveness.

The next card I want to show is made with just the card add-on Clarabelle. I cut two of the patterned papers included in the add-on at an angle and adhered it to my card base. The add-on also includes a package of banner shapes so naturally I had to make it into a garland, right? Although the banner shapes are already rich in texture, I added a stamped heart with my trusty Tiny Attacher to one of them as well as a stamped arrow using rose gold acrylic paint.

The sentiment stamps in the card add-on are gorgeous, especially if you like bigger, clean script fonts. I stamped on them on a relatively neutral patterned paper (made by Tim & Beck for SC, you can get a whole paper pad of these polka dotted papers here) to make the sentiment stand out. Again, a little detail, in this case the red cloth pin, draws the eye right to the focal point.

That's it from me today! I'll be back soon with my other kit cards and hopefully I'll also get to share some samples with the new dies that are available with April kits. My favorite? The triangle background definitively! Thanks for stopping by, everyone :)
